Just started a 5-day writing splurge with Kate up here in Cumbria – going to do lots of walks to get the brain working – we are still recovering from the end of term and performances etc. Watch this space! First deadline is in September

Stone Meets Sky
BlueJam Jazz
Jilly runs the jazz programme jointly with Geoff Bartholomew. See bluejamarts.org for more details. In 2015 we are pleased to be supported by Cumbria Music Hub and to be working in partnership with National Youth Jazz Collective. We run a weekly intergenerational Jazz workshop together, and Jilly runs Improv Choirs in Penrith and Brampton with bespoke workshops for groups and choirs nationally.
Beggars Opera
Trellis Arts (the amazing Sarah and Jeff Wallcook) are, with Kirkgate Arts in Cockermouth, putting on a production of Beggars Opera by Gay in April.
I went to see the cast last night and had a great time – I am accompanying them for the show on piano.
Time to get my sight-reading skills out of the lock-up – the music is a flexible feast though, so am enjoying responding to the way they want to sing the songs (which are really short!).
Music in Primary Schools
I go into schools and improvise
Fragments
To stop our own work being completely shunted to one side despite being busy ‘being creative’ in other contexts, myself and a fellow artist commit to sending each other something everyday. A fragment of work that doesn’t need to go anywhere, be anything, just make sure we get into that space at least once a day. It’s surprisingly effective and very enjoyable.
We have been doing it for about 3 months now.
